EU Treated as Single Market for Vehicle

Subject: Amendment in ITC
(HS) 2012 Schedule 1 – Import Policy.
In exercise of powers
conferred under section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation)
Act, 1992 read with paragraph 2.1 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2009-2014, the
Central Government hereby makes the following amendments in Schedule 1 – Import
Policy of ITC (HS) – 2012, under Chapter 87, Para 2 (II) (a) (iv):-
2. Para 2 (II) (a) of chapter 87 lists certain conditions that every
new vehicle being imported to the country must satisfy. Of these conditions,
sub para (iv) of para 2(II)(a) is amended by adding a new sentence “The country of
manufacture will also mean a Single Market like the European Union (EU)” after
the existing sentence. Accordingly, the amended para
would read as :-
“2 (II) the import of new
vehicles shall be subject to the following conditions:
a. The new vehicle shall-
(i) have a speedometer indicating the speed in Kilometers per hour;
(ii) have right hand steering, and controls
(applicable on vehicles other than two and three wheelers);
(iii) have photometry of the headlamps to suit
“keep-left” traffic’; and
(iv) be imported from the country of
manufacture. The country of manufacture will also mean a Single Market
like the European Union (EU).”
3. Effect of this Notification: In the phrase “the country of
manufacture” in para 2(II) a (iv)
of Chapter 87, the words ‘the country’ would include a Single Market like the
EU.
