Duty-free Shop in Trivandrum Smuggles Liquor into
DTA
In the case
relating to smuggling of liquor worth Rs 6 crore,
Customs Superintendent Luke K George surrendered at the CBI office on Wednesday,
18 November 2020. Luke, who was named the first accused in the case probed by
both Customs and CBI, was absconding for the past two years.
Luke who
appeared at the CBI office in the morning was interrogated by the officials.
Later his arrest was recorded and he was let off on bail.
Customs is
mulling the termination of his service for the absence for two years.
The
Malaysian company Plus Max Duty Free Private Limited had smuggled liquor worth Rs 6 crore via duty-free shop in Thiruvananthapuram airport
evading tax. Luke facilitated the smuggling by securing the passport details of
over 13,000 passengers from 4 airlines companies and handed it over to Plus
Max. This was to forge evidence that these passengers bought liquor.
Plus Max CEO
and others were arrested earlier.
