Indian Missions in North America join Engineering Exporters to Promote Atamanirbhar Bharat in North America

EEPC India would be leveraging the outreach resources of Indian embassies and missions in North America, including the US and Canada, to promote Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi's Aatamanirbhar Bharat core objective of making the country a global manufacturing hub.

In the run-up to the 'India Subcontracting Expo' scheduled for February 16-19, 2021 on virtual platform, the EEPC India held last evening, a curtain-raiser event that discussed the potential for boosting trade and investment in the region. With a combined GDP of USD 24.35 trillion, North America is the richest as well as the most economically competitive region of the world generating 27 per cent of the World GDP.

''North America is our largest trade destination accounting for one-fifth of India’s engineering exports, '' said EEPC India Chairman Mr Mahesh Desai, addressing the event. He said, within North America, the US itself accounts for 19 per cent these shipments.

Those sharing their inputs and strategies for reaching out widely to North American businesses included: Dr Srikar K. Reddy, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Dr Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Minister (Commerce), Embassy of India in Washington, Mr Anshuman Gaur, Deputy High Commissioner, High Commission of India, Ottawa, Canada and Ms Juhi Rai, Economic and Commercial Representative, Embassy of India, Mexico City.

Mr Desai said the Aatmanirbhar Bharat is the best-ever attempt to make India self-reliant on one side and to enhance the competence level of Indian industry and suppliers in the global market. ‘Make in India 2.0’, an integral part of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, would accelerate the process of scaling up India into a ‘Global Manufacturing Hub’ ''The role of our embassies and missions would be crucial for successful implementation of these initiatives," the EEPC India Chairman said.

75 companies including the small and medium enterprises, would be participating in the 'India Subcontracting' expo, showcasing their strength and capabilities in being the best in class global suppliers to around 300 overseas buyers.
