Jordan Initiates Safeguard on A4 Writing and Printing Paper
The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply initiated
the investigation based on a petition filed by the domestic industry for
writing and printing papers size A4, in which it alleged that the increase of
imports had caused serious injury to the domestic industry producing similar
products. The application has been examined and it was concluded that there was
sufficient evidence on increasing imports of the subject product, sufficient
evidence of injury on the industry, and evidence of causality between the
increased imports and the injury.
National Production Protection Directorate (NPPD) analysed
imports data submitted in the application for the period of investigation from
2010 to 2013. It has been found that the increase, both in absolute terms and
relative to production in imports was recent, sudden, sharp and significant.
Regarding injury factors, NPPD found that declines in the
economic indicators of production, sales, market share, productivity and
profits were recorded in the domestic industry, in conjunction with the
increase in imports.
