to be Ready for its First Batch of IRS Students by September 2023: Nirmala Sitharaman

Union finance minister Nirmala
Sitharaman laid the foundation stone for the national academy of customs, indirect
taxes and narcotics (NACIN) near Palasamudram village
in Gorantla Mandal in Anantapur district on Saturday.
The union finance minister underlined
that the first batch of IRS students will be admitted to this world-class institution
to undergo training in their respective disciplines from September 2023.
"It gives me great pride
that this state-of-the-art academy is being established in Anantapur district in
the state of Andhra Pradesh. Like the Lal Bahadur Shastri national academy at Mussoorie
is for the IAS trainees and Sardar Vallabhai Patel national
police academy at Hyderabad is for the IPS trainees, NACIN located at Anantapur
in AP is the place to go for all Indian revenue service trainees from next year.
Centre's commitment towards establishing such a premier academy in Andhra Pradesh
is a classic example of the union government's commitment towards showcasing AP
as one of the best states in the country", Nirmala Sitharaman asserted.
"After the bifurcation of
the state in 2014, as per the directions of Prime minister Narendra Modi, the then
union finance minister Arun Jaitley in his budget speech announced that NACIN will
be established in Anantapur district in AP. I was the union minister of state for
finance then. And in April 2015, Arun Jaitley laid the foundation stone for NACIN.
Though there has been a delay in establishing this institution par excellence due
to land acquisition, relief and rehabilitation issues etc, the centre will ensure
that the first phase works of the academy are completed and training for the first
batch of students begins by September next year", the union finance minister
added.
