NAM Summit in Tehran August 26 - 31
The 16th heads-of-state summit of the Non-Aligned
Movement (NAM) in Tehran will be an excellent chance for the country to
confront the West's illegal sanctions, a senior Iranian legislator said on
Tuesday.
Meantime, the Iranian lawmaker stated that Tehran
plans to lead the meeting towards economic independence, and added, "We
wish the NAM countries to prepare the grounds for confronting the economic
threats posed by the hegemonic states."
The 16th NAM summit will be held in Tehran from
August 26 to 31. Iran will assume the rotating presidency of the movement from
Egypt for three years during the upcoming summit.
Despite the rules enshrined in the
Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling every member state, including Iran, to
the right of uranium enrichment, Tehran is now under four rounds of UN Security
Council sanctions for turning down West's calls to give up its right of uranium
enrichment.
