At the invitation of President
Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be
flying on a state visit to the US on June 21. He will lead the International
Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to kick
off the visit.
The
official visit will start on June 21 and end on June 24. The formal and
diplomatic meetings, the state banquet and interactions with the diaspora and
business community are all part of the state visit.

Day 1 (June 21)

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will formally welcome PM Modi to
the White House. Top Cabinet and Congressional officials are anticipated to
attend the reception with President Joe Biden between 7.30 PM to 10.30 PM IST.
On the day
of (the state visit), there would be a ceremonial arrival ceremony at the White
House, often on the South Lawn. The visiting Head of State and the President
will have discussions during the event.
Costello
claims that after listening to their respective national anthems and reviewing
their troops, Biden and PM Modi will enter the White House for talks and
diplomatic exchanges. Later that evening, a state dinner is held in their
honour and they then spend the night there as the President and First Lady’s
overnight guests at Blair House, the President’s official guest house.
Thousands
of Indian Americans are anticipated to greet Modi when he enters the White
House.
After the
event, Modi and Biden will meet at the White House, according to the Ministry
of External Affairs (MEA). PM Modi will speak to a joint session of the US
Congress on June 22 between 11.30PM to 2.30AM.
PM Modi
will become the only Indian Prime Minister to twice address the US Congress
with his speech to Congress. He previously spoke before Congress in 2016.
Day 3 (June 23)
On June 23,
in the evening, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will host a state
dinner in PM Modi’s honour.
While many
people view state visits and opulent state dinners as nothing more than a fancy
affair, historian Matthew Costello, Vice President and Interim Director of the
David M Rubenstein National Centre for White House History explained that these
occasions serve as a sign of the host’s respect for the country of the visiting
leader.
PM Modi
will interact with the American business community and Indian-American
community on June 23. The Ronald Reagan Centre in Washington, DC, will host the
diaspora event.
The US
India Community Foundation is hosting the diaspora event, and a national
organising committee made up of 25 illustrious individuals has been formed to
plan it.
At the
diaspora event, African-American actor and singer Mary Millben
will also perform. She holds the distinction of having performed for the
previous three US presidents: George W. Bush, Donald Trump, and Barack Obama.
On June 23,
