Seizure of Currency at Cochin International Airport

On 30.10.2011, two passengers proceeding to Colombo by King Fisher Flight IT 0079 were intercepted by the Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit at the Departure Hall of Cochin International Airport, after they had completed their emigration, on suspicion. An amount of Rs.2,30,000/- Indian Currency and 28,460/- Sri Lankan Rupees were recovered from the hand baggages of the two passengers. As the currencies were attempted to be exported in violation of the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962 and FEMA, 2009, the same were seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962.
