Seizure
of 100 Bags of Betelnuts at Siliguri

Acting
on a specific information the officers of Naxalbari Customs D.P.U. alongwith
the officers of Bagdogra P.U., Panitanki
P.U., Siliguri D.P.U. & Naxalbari
Police Station recovered a truck bearing Regn. No.
WB-71A/ 0423 loaded with 100 (one hundred) bags weighing 8,385 Kgs. of Betelnuts believed to be
of 3rd country origin from a godown premises adjacent
to M/s. Bolbom Shankar Service Station, Naxalbari (Satbhaiya) area. On
enquiry, Sri Liladhar Goyal,
authorized representative of the said godown premises
produced a document “Zimmanama” of Phasidewa Police Station issued with reference to G.D.E.
No. 263/10 dated 02.12.10. On reasonable belief that the said betelnuts were illicitly imported through the adjoining
border area of Nepal for onward transportation for sale of the same in the grey
market, the goods so recovered alongwith the said
carrier vehicle were seized vide Seizure case No. 32/Imp/Cl/NXB/DPU/11-12
dated 06.11.2011 valued at Rs. 9,70,100/-
after observing all necessary seizure formalities.
The
case is under investigation.
