Virtual Symposium to Mark 25 years of the
TRIPS Agreement
The WTO is organizing on 24 November 2020 a virtual
symposium to mark the 25th Anniversary of the Agreement on Trade-Related
Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS Agreement). This will be the
first of a series of commemorative events reflecting on the impact and
evolution of the most comprehensive multilateral treaty on intellectual
property protection and enforcement.
The
event will be opened by WTO Deputy Director-General Xiaozhun
Yi and will begin with personal reflections by the first and current
chairpersons of the TRIPS Council. The morning sessions of the virtual event
will track different aspects of the implementation and operation of the TRIPS
Agreement since its inception.
The
afternoon sessions will then provide a current view on TRIPS and the
multilateral intellectual property (IP) system in the broad fields of
development, digitization and new technologies.
A
forward-looking round table on "TRIPS 2.0? The TRIPS Agreement as a framework
for development in the knowledge economy" will close the event, that will be live streamed on the WTO YouTube
