Vivek Johri Joins Board, Appointment Cleared by the Cabinet Committee

Vivek Johri and two other officers namely Ajay Jain and Sungita Sharma have joined the CBIC Board. The vacancies in the Board followed the retirement of John Joseph, Raj Kumar Barthwal and Ashok Pandey. Sandeep Mohan Bhatnagar is expected to retire at the end of August when one more will join the select group of six. It will be a revamped Board with all new faces.

Vivek Johri was Chief Commissioner at Nhava Sheva Port which is an important post. He is likely to join as Member Customs given his vast experience, first in TRU in the CBIC and later in WTO as part of the Mission of India in Geneva. He is a high flyer having joined the service at an early age of 22 after completing MBA. If all goes well, Vivek will become Chairman in November 2021 when the present Chairman Ajit Kumar retires. He will have clear 20 months at Chairman as he retires only in July 2023. In all, he will have about 3 years in the Board.

Trade is looking forward to his innings in the Board as he is an experienced person and believes in reform and rule of law in administration.
