against those Spreading Misinformation
Smartphone brand Xiaomi, on Friday, 7 August, 2020 said
that it is fully compliant with government’s orders since the banned mobile
applications cannot be accessed on its devices and reserves the right of legal
action against false accusations against the company.
“We have also noticed some stray instances of
misinformation being spread regarding the above points,” Xiaomi India MD Manu
Kumar Jain said in a statement.
“Xiaomi reserves the right to take legal action against
false accusations of its noncompliance with Government orders.”
He was referring to the recent ban of two of Xiaomi’s
apps ‘Mi Browser Pro’ and ‘Mi
Community’.
“We are building a new version of MIUI which will be
built without pre-installation of any of the banned apps. This will be rolling
out in a phased manner over the next few weeks,” he said.
The company also clarified that it has its own Cleaner
app which is separate from the Clean Master app banned by the government.
Xiaomi said it is removing the industry definitions (also used by Clean Master
app) which are vital for functioning of its cleaner app. The new version of the
Cleaner app can be updated by users.
The brand also said that it is adherent to data security
norms of the Indian law.
“Since 2018, 100% data from Indian users is stored on
servers located in India and none of this data is shared with anyone outside of
India.”
