CHAs Mumbai Customs Zone Written Examination will be held on
15 September 2011
The following public Notice was issued
by the Commissioner of Customs (General) New Custom House, Mumbai on 2nd
June 2011.

It is hereby notified
for the information of all the Custom House Agents operating in Mumbai Customs
Zone that written examination Under Regulation-8 of the Custom House Agents
Licensing Regulations (CHALR) – 2004 will be held on 05.09.2011.
I. The Employees, Partners
or Directors of licensed CHAs, nominated by the concerned CHA, are eligible to
appear for the Regulation ‘8’ Examination, as per CHALR-2004. Such nominees
should possess the following educational qualifications as prescribed under
Regulation 6 of CHALR, 2004:
(a) Graduate from a recognized
University and possess a professional Degree viz. C.A./MBA/LLB/Diploma in
Customs Clearance work with a working knowledge of Computers and Customs
procedures. (all the above mentioned Degree & Diploma Course should be from
a recognized University and Institutes that are approved by the AICTE under
Ministry of Human Resource Development, or;
(b) Graduate having at
least three years experience in transacting Custom House Agents work as a
G-Card holder, or;
(c) Retired Group ‘A’ Officer
from the Indian Customs and Central Excise Service (IC&CES) having a
minimum of ten years experience in Group ‘A’.
Note:
Qualifications/Degrees mentioned above only is
acceptable and equivalent qualifications are not acceptable.
Further, CHA Licence holders granted permission to operate under
Regulations 15(2) or 16(2) of CHALR-2004 may also apply or nominate their
Employees/Directors/Partners possessing the above cited qualification for the
said written examination may appear in the examination.
II. As per the Regulations,
the candidate who qualify the written test, are required to appear in the oral
test to be held subsequently. A candidate, who clears the written examination
but fails in the oral examination linked to it, shall have to clear the oral
examination within two years of the related written examination irrespective of
the number of chances, and if he fails to do so, he shall be treated as having
failed in the examination.
Candidates who
appeared for the written examination / oral test earlier, and have failed to
clear the written test / oral test are not eligible to appear after 7 years
from the date of their first appearance in the written examination as per the
provisions of Regulation 8(4) of CHALR, 2004.
III. Information regarding issue
of Roll Nos., seating arrangements, etc., would be displayed on the Notice
Board of the Personnel & Establishment Department (CHA), New Custom House, Mumbai in due course. The application should be furnished in
the prescribed format given at Annexure – I to this Notice for each
candidate separately alongwith a photocopy of his
Custom Pass duly attested by the Licensee himself and a copy of his Educational
Qualification Certificate should be attested by a Gazetted
Officer of Customs.
IV. Please note that the
applications for the above written examination to be held on 05.09.2011 should
reach this office latest by 25.06.2011 complete in all respects. The incomplete applications shall be summarily
rejected. The application received after the last date shall not be
entertained under any circumstances.
V. This issues with the
approval of Commissioner of Customs (General), Mumbai.
