China's Undersea
Cable Drive Defies U.S. Sanctions
'Diplomatic
race' with Washington as Beijing pursues self-sufficient global network
For
Chinese undersea cable maker Wuhan FiberHome
International Technologies, being banned by the U.S. government is nothing to
worry about. It has, in fact, been good for business.
"We
don't care about the U.S. blacklisting," a FiberHome
executive named Wu told Nikkei Asia, referring to Washington's decision to put
the company on a trade "entity list" in 2020 as part of a broad
crackdown on China's tech sector. The move blocks the company from buying U.S.
technology.
