Chinese Companies Secure IEEPA Refunds

! Several Chinese listed companies have reported receiving US tariff refunds and interest since early July, as the United States moves to return duties imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), the China Daily newspaper reported.

Guizhou Tyre Co Ltd said on Aug 7 that its overseas wholly owned subsidiary had received a total of $11.98 million in tariff refunds and interest from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

On July 8, Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical Co Ltd said it had received a total of $14.23 million in tariff refunds, which were expected to affect its 2026 net profit by about 96.87 million yuan based on the yuan's central parity rate that day. On the same day, Hitevision Co Ltd said its subsidiary had received $4.07 million in tariff refunds.

Canature Health Technology Group Co Ltd said on July 13 that it had received $4.55 million in tariff refunds, including interest.

On July 28, WINBO-Dongjian Automotive Technology Co Ltd said it and its wholly owned subsidiary had received $3.39 million in tariff refunds and interest.

Greenworks (Jiangsu) Co Ltd and Newtechwood Corporation have also said they had received partial tariff refunds, without disclosing the amounts. Shenzhen Hello Tech Energy Co Ltd, Hansong (Nanjing) Technology Limited, and Zhejiang Dingli Machinery Co Ltd said they had submitted refund applications or started the relevant procedures.

The refunds come as the US Supreme Court ruled on Feb 20 that President Donald Trump's tariff policies under the IEEPA are unconstitutional. The unilateral tariff measures have drawn opposition both at home and abroad, with concerns that they violate international trade rules and undermine the global trading order.
