On 1 October, 2026, Ambassador Jamieson Greer was pleased to announce that the G20 Trade Ministers reached consensus on the G20 Statement on the Weaponization of Food through Coercive Trade Actions under the U.S. Presidency.

“After constructive discussions, the G20 Trade Ministers agreed to condemn food weaponization as it poses a significant humanitarian and economic threat,” said Ambassador Greer. “For decades, trade in food, agricultural products, and agricultural inputs has been weaponized to exert coercive pressure for economic or political reasons. This threatens livelihoods in targeted countries, distorts competition, and erodes trust in the global trading system. This statement is an important step towards ensuring that agricultural products are not used as a tool for economic or political coercion.”
