n-Butyl Acrylate BIS Quality Compliance Suspended for Three Months to Ease Supply Disruptions

·         The Central Government has issued notification S.O. 1854(E) amending the n-Butyl Acrylate (Quality Control) Order, 2021.

·         This action is taken under the powers of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

·         Reason for the decision:

o    Ongoing global supply chain disruptions.

o    Need to ensure adequate availability of n-Butyl Acrylate in India.

·         What has changed:

o    Compliance with the prescribed Indian Standard (BIS certification) is temporarily suspended.

·         Time period of relaxation:

o    From 10 April 2026 to 10 July 2026 (3 months).

·         Implication:

o    During this period, manufacturers/importers do not need to meet BIS quality standards for n-Butyl Acrylate.

o    This is aimed at preventing shortages and stabilizing supply.

·         Nature of measure:

o    Temporary and exceptional, taken in public interest.

o    Will automatically lapse after 10 July 2026 unless extended.

 

[Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals Order S.O. 1854(E) dated 10 April, 2026]

S.O. 1854(E).— Whereas, the Central Government has notified the (Quality Control) Order, 2021 vide S.O. 5438 (E), dated 24th December, 2021 (hereinafter to referred as the said Order) in the public interest under and the powers conferred by section 16 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016);

And whereas, in view of the exigencies prevailing globally, the Central Government, in consultation with Bureau, has taken cognizance of the supply chain disruption and is satisfied that to ensure availability of the n-Butyl Acrylate, it is necessary and expedient to suspend the operation of the said Order temporarily;

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 16 read with sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act 2016, (11 of 2016), and being of the opinion that it is necessary so to do in the public interest, the Central Government after consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards, hereby makes the following amendment to the said Order, namely :-

In the n-Butyl Acrylate (Quality Control) Order, 2021, in paragraph 2, the following proviso shall be inserted, namely: -

“Provided that to prevent any disruption of supply chain of the said goods or article, the conformation to such Indian Standard shall not be applicable for the period from the 10th April, 2026 to 10th July, 2026."
