Revised Mandatory Standard for Dry Cell Battery

· With the publication of this revised Indian Standard, IS 9128:1999 is superseded and hence shall be withdrawn after 30 April 2019.

· Indian Standard i.e. IS 8144:2018 covering all types of Zinc Carbon batteries of different sizes namely R03, R6, R14 and R20 from 1 May 2019 including Heavy Duty Dry Batteries released. Old IS 8144:1997 and 9128:1999 replaced.

IS 8144:1997 for Multipurpose Dry Batteries has been revised as IS 8144:2018. This revised Indian Standard also covers the requirements of Heavy Duty Dry Batteries which were earlier covered in IS 9128:1999. With the publication of this revised Indian Standard, IS 9128:1999 is superseded and hence shall be withdrawn after 30 April 2019. There will, thus, be only one Indian Standard i.e. IS 8144:2018 covering all types of Zinc Carbon batteries of different sizes namely R03, R6, R14 and R20 for various applications. As IS 8144 is under the ambit of mandatory certification, all the new varieties which are included in the scope of the revised IS also come under the purview of mandatory certification.
