US Customs
Proposes Informal Entry for $2500 Shipments as Substitute for $800 De Minimis
Duty Free Import
[ABS News Service/12.10.2026]
Customs and
Border Protection is proposing changes to informal entry procedures for
shipments valued at $2,500 or less, including mandatory electronic filing,
additional shipment data and bonding requirements, and a new electronic entry
process for international mail.
Under the
proposed changes, CBP would require Entry Type 11 filings on or before the date
of importation and identification of the final deliver-to party when different
from the ultimate consignee. It would also establish Entry Type 13 for informal
mail entries and require additional carrier data.
CBP says the
changes would strengthen revenue collection and enforcement as shipments formerly
eligible for the suspended $800 de minimis exemption shift to informal entry
procedures.
