President Biden on Friday formalized the White House
Council on Supply Chain Resilience that he created in 2021 in response to the
global COVID-19 pandemic.
In an executive order, the President ordered the council to
conduct a quadrennial supply chain review of industries critical to national or
economic security, including the processes in place to monitor supply chains
and the timeliness of the associated data.
The first report must be submitted by December 31 of this
year and every four years thereafter.
“Building resilient American supply chains will necessitate
enhancing domestic manufacturing capacity, supporting America's competitive
edge in research and development, encouraging innovation, reinforcing critical
infrastructure, and creating well-paying jobs,” according to the executive
order. “Building resilient American supply chains will also provide a
foundation to strengthen prosperity, advance the fight against climate change,
enhance national emergency preparedness, and encourage economic growth across
the Nation.”
Separately, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo held a virtual
meeting with the Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness.
Ms. Raimondo highlighted the value in leveraging Commerce’s
Supply Chain Center to get ahead of supply chain
challenges in collaboration with the private sector and the significance of
working with our international partners to reduce barriers and create a level
playing field for American firms and create US jobs.
She also provided an update on the investments being made
by the Administration to strengthen supply chains and prevent future
disruptions.
