USTR Seeks Delay
of China Sec 301 Tariffs

The US Trade
Representative’s Office is seeking comments on delaying for another two months Section
301 tariffs and ports fees on China, saying that Washington and Beijing need
more time to negotiate.
The Section 301
action was taken following an investigation by USTR into China’s practices aimed
at dominating the global maritime, logistics and shipbuilding sectors.
The tariffs and
fees proposed by USTR were never put into effect as the two countries were trying
to negotiate a broader trade truce.
The one-year
delay in implementing the Section 301 action was set to expire on November 10.
USTR says it is
now extending the delay for another two months, until January 9, 2027.
USTR said it is
“continuing to engage with China with the goal of obtaining the elimination of the
acts, policies, and practices at issue in the investigation.”
